Phoenix Fire Health and Fitness Symposium

Los Angeles County Fitness for Life

June 27, 2007

The Phoenix Fire Department sponsors a health and fitness symposium every year. It is at the Arizona Biltmore Resort. This place is amazing! It was built by the Wrigley family in 1929 with the consultation of architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. People from all over the country including representatives of the IAFF and ACE, converge to this desert oasis to learn new things. Capt. Klar, Capt. George Cruz, Union Rep Paul Rusin and myself are here representing LA County.

The most important thing I learned from the symposium is that you need a balance of many different exercises and nutrition goals. Mix Cardio with Strength Training. Eat proteins, low glycemic carbs, and healthy fats. Supplement what you don't get from good foods and stay away from steroids and the like.

Click on the links to the left where you will find my notes and highlights of the presentations given over the last 2 days.

I wanted to thank Chief Metro, Capt. Klar, Capt. Alkonis, Capt. Cruz, and Bob Karwasky for making this trip possible.

Thanks to PFT Jason Hurd, PFT Mike Warren, and PFT Bill Frescas for holding down the fort at Recruit Fitness.
